4-Inch Reverse Osmosis Membranes

Uses of 4-Inch Reverse Osmosis Membranes

The various uses of 4-inch reverse osmosis (RO) membranes will be discussed later in our article. This size is one of the options we offer in water treatment, demonstrating our commitment to providing all types and sizes of RO membranes for water treatment plants.

What is Reverse Osmosis Membrane?

The reverse osmosis membrane is a crucial element in the RO system. It is a semi-permeable membrane that allows pure water to pass through while blocking dissolved salt, contaminants, and other impurities simultaneously. RO membrane elements are typically manufactured using polymer materials such as cellulose acetate and aromatic polyamide. This design effectively separates particles and removes over 99% of dissolved salts, making it ideal for obtaining high-quality, clean water by removing soluble salts, bacteria, viruses, organics, and other particles and impurities in feedwater for the production of clean and healthy water.

Furthermore, RO membranes are primarily constructed with a non-woven fabric layer, a poly-sulfone support network, and an aromatic polyamide barrier layer. Due to the surface modification technology of the reverse osmosis membrane, it exhibits excellent smoothness and reduced surface charges, significantly reducing the accumulation rate of pollutants and microorganisms on the surface. This extends its service life and saves costs.

On the other hand, RO membranes are designed with multiple membrane layers, each featuring an interlayer such as the intermediate layer. The membrane sheets are bonded together on three sides with one facing the permeate tube.

Advantages of Reverse Osmosis Membranes:

In comparison to traditional filtration membranes, RO membranes have the following features:

  • Easy to implement and use.
  • Standard designs for easy installation.
  • Prevent the passage of hazardous chemicals.
  • Energy-efficient.
  • Cost-effective, reducing water and wastewater usage.
  • Provide pure water with high quality.

Applications of 4-Inch RO Membranes:

We supply 4-inch RO membranes for low salinity applications. Industries that use these membranes include pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, boiler feedwater, dairy products, and more.

The unique features of these membranes include:

  • Low Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in low salinity water, make them suitable for certain applications.
  • Stable and continuous filtration – the design allows for simple and effective cleaning, ensuring a steady filtration and preventing fouling.
  • Chemical stability – these membranes offer greater protection against fouling compared to hollow fiber membranes, creating less need for chemical cleaning.
  • Versatile applications – due to their numerous benefits, these membranes are highly adaptable and can be used across a wide range of applications, from low-salinity water to seawater desalination.
  • High durability – the high permeability and advanced membrane materials provide greater physical strength and long-lasting performance.
